Duan Jin, a national engineering survey and design master, one of the first members of Urban and Rural Planning Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, the first Chinese member of the International Steering Committee on Space Syntax, an executive director of Urban Planning Society of China, chairman of Standardization Administration, deputy chairman of Urban Design Committee, a member of Higher education Urban and Rural Planning Evaluation Committee of Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and a deputy chairman of Urban Design Expert Committee of Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, is mainly engaged in the study and teaching of urban planning and design and associated theories.
Professor Duan has won 2 first prizes and 1 second prize of provincial and ministerial-level science and technology progress award. He has won 26 international and national planning and design awards as the first prize winner, including outstanding design award by International Society of City and Regional Planner, best urban design award by the Leading European Architects Forum, architectural honorary nomination award by Architects Regional Council Asia and 3 first prizes for national excellent urban and rural planning and designs. He was entitled as the first “national excellent scientific and technological worker” in planning discipline in 2010, and one of the first leading talent awards of science and technology award issued by Urban Planning Society of China in 2019. Three of his works have been selected into the International Centennial Urban Design Tour.
He has participated in the first NSFC funded key programs in architecture discipline in China, and led several general programs funded by NSFC, youth programs and NSFC-DFG cooperative research programs. In recent years, he has led major urban planning and design projects for xiong'an New Area, Suzhou Ancient City, 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, Jiangsu section of South-to-North Water Transfer Project, areas along the Grand Canal, and for such cities as Shenzhen, Tianjin, Wuhan, Urumqi, Xiamen, Qingdao, Ningbo, Hefei, Guilin, Yantai and Jiaxing. He has published 12 monographs (as the first author) and 111 papers.
